Majorana 1 Chip: Microsoft, the global conglomerate and a highly influential company in the field of Computers and Technologies, released their 1st Topological core-based quantum Computing Chip called Majorana 1. Unlike Google and IBM, Microsoft is using Majorana Particles, a mysterious state of matter that could make qubits faster, stabler, and more scalable. If it works, it could solve problems in seconds that today’s supercomputers take millions of years to process.

The Science behind Majorana 1

Majorana Fermions are exotic quasiparticles that act as their own antiparticles. Normal Particles like Electrons, when they meet another of their own kind, don’t annihilate each other. On the other hand, Majorana when they meet their antiparticles, annihilate each other.

These Majorana Particles exhibit special behaviour because they obey non-Abelian Statistics. To understand it, we should have an understanding of Quantum Statistics.

Quantum Mechanics Classifies particles based on how they behave when their positions are swapped. Swapping two Bosons (Bosonic Statistics) does nothing to the wave function, whereas swapping two Fermions (Fermionic Statistics) flips the wave function’s sign. Then comes Non-Abelian Statistics, the most Exotic Type. In Non-Abelian Statistics, swapping two identical particles does more than just flip the sign, it actually changes the Quantum State in a way that depends on the order of their exchanges.

Will Majorana 1 be the Game Changer?

These Majorana Particles on Quantum Computing can be special due to their Error Resistance, Topological Protection, and Scalability. These particles are less susceptible to decoherence, the Qubits can store more information, and if proven, Majorana-based Quantum Computers could be easier to scale than the current models.

Will Microsoft change the future of Quantum Computing? Well, the Scientific Community remains skeptical about their stability in real-world quantum computing. In 2018, Microsoft claimed to have detected the Majorana particles, however, they later retracted the findings due to a mistake in the data. But this time, it is solid, and if successful, it could surpass Google’s Sycamore and IBM’s Osprey Chips in Quantum Computing.

2. Microsoft PowerToys is available for both per-user and machine-wide installations. This flexibility allows users and administrators to choose the deployment method that best suits their needs.
3. Per-user settings or configurations are applied per user and are specific to each user account on a computer. This means that each user can have their own customized settings and configurations independent of other users on the same machine. Machine-wide settings or configurations are applied machine-wide to affect the entire system or all user accounts on a particular machine. Changes made in a machine-wide context apply universally to all users and are not specific to individual user accounts. Choose your option as per your needs.
4. For explanation purposes, I will choose per-user configuration. Microsoft PowerToys is primarily designed for x64 (64-bit) architecture. This means that the PowerToys software is optimized to run on 64-bit versions of Windows operating systems. For ARM-based Windows PCs and tablets, Microsoft has been working on making PowerToys compatible with ARM processors. Choose your download accordingly.

   

5. Microsoft Powertoys will now be downloaded to your Windows 11 PC.

Once the application is downloaded, the installation process is a straightforward option.

1. Run the downloaded Powertoys setup file.
2. Agree to the terms and click on Install.

   

3. Installation progress will continue. Kindly be patient.

   

4. Once the installation is complete, click Close.

   

5. That is it. You can access this tool via the start menu.
