Windows 11 can show notices directly inside the Settings app. The current control is Show notifications in Settings on Settings > Privacy & security > Recommendations & offers. The text under the switch is important: required notifications will be shown even if this setting is off.
I reproduced the setting on Windows 11 Home Single Language version 25H2, build 26220.7872. The real switch started On, changed to Off, and returned to On. Windows UI Automation confirmed each state, neighboring switches stayed unchanged, and no restart or administrator approval was required.
What do Settings notifications do in Windows 11?
This preference controls notifications that Windows presents within the Settings experience. Turning it On allows those optional notices to appear. Turning it Off reduces them, but it is not a promise that Settings will become completely silent.
Windows explicitly says required notifications are still shown when the switch is Off. That distinction prevents a misleading expectation: you may continue to see an important account, security, update, device, or system notice when Windows considers it necessary.

Where is the Show notifications in Settings switch?
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Select Recommendations & offers.
- Find Show notifications in Settings.
The same page contains Personalized offers, website language-list access, app-launch tracking, recommendations and offers in Settings, and Advertising ID. Those are separate preferences. Change only the Show notifications in Settings row for this tutorial.

How do you turn off notifications in Settings?
- Open Settings > Privacy & security > Recommendations & offers.
- Find Show notifications in Settings.
- Set the switch to Off.
- Confirm that Off appears beside the control. You do not need to restart Windows.

On the reproduced PC, the UI Automation state changed to Off immediately. This turns off the optional Settings notifications governed by this preference. Required notices can still appear, exactly as the Windows description warns.
How do you turn on notifications in Settings?
- Return to Settings > Privacy & security > Recommendations & offers.
- Set Show notifications in Settings to On.
- Confirm the On label beside the switch.
The setting returned to On immediately during rollback. Enabling it does not force a message to appear at once; it permits Windows to show the optional Settings notifications covered by this control when relevant.
What does this switch not control?
- Required Settings notices can remain visible. Windows states this directly below the control.
- App and system toast notifications are separate. Manage them under Settings > System > Notifications.
- Personalized offers are separate. That switch governs personalization based on Windows activity and device information.
- Product recommendations in Settings are separate. Use the neighboring Recommendations and offers in Settings control.
- Advertising ID, website language-list access, and app-launch tracking remain unchanged.
Why might the Settings notification switch be missing or unavailable?
- Install current Windows updates and reopen the page.
- Use Settings search for Show notifications in Settings or Recommendations & offers.
- If the control is unavailable, check whether a work or school organization manages the PC.
- Use the supported Settings switch instead of importing an unverified Registry file.

Do you need to restart after changing Settings notifications?
No. The reproduced switch changed immediately, and its original On state was restored without restarting.
Is Show notifications in Settings the same as Recommendations and offers in Settings?
No. They are neighboring but separate controls. The first governs Settings notifications, while the second governs product recommendations and offers shown in Settings.
Choose whether optional Settings notices can appear
Open Settings > Privacy & security > Recommendations & offers and change Show notifications in Settings. Turn it Off to reduce optional Settings notices or On to allow them. Remember that required notifications can still appear and that ordinary app notifications use a different page.
